Charlton’s U18s fell to a single-goal defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.
In a tight encounter in difficult conditions, the teams were only separated by a first-half goalkeeping error which won the points for the visiting side.
A looping cross into the box from the lest looked to be harmless, but it proved difficult for Addicks stopper James Beadle, who saw the ball slip from his arms and bounce just over the line to gift Crewe what would prove to be the winner.
The hosts did have openings to make amends, but just could not hit the target on a frustrating morning in New Eltham.
Charlton will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday evening when they head to Winslow United in the first round of the FA Youth Cup.
