The attacking midfielder scored and got an assist in his last appearance for the Addicks, a 3-1 win at home to Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy, and has impressed Lee Bowyer with his performances in training since.
Alex Gilbey returns to the bench after a spell on the sidelines and Jason Pearce is also on the bench after getting 45 minutes against Leyton Orient.
Ryan Inniss misses the game with a quad injury while Jake Forster-Caskey is also on the sidelines with a minor hamstring complaint.
If Bowyer opts for a 4-diamond-2 formation then Adam Matthews, Chris Gunter, Darren Pratley and Ian Maatsen will make up a back four in front of Ben Amos.
In that formation Ben Watson would start as the holding midfielder with Andrew Shinnie and Albie Morgan, also outstanding against Leyton Orient, either side of the diamond behind Maddison. In that formation Conor Washington would start up front with Omar Bogle but the flexibility of the team means Washington and Maddison could start either side of Bogle in a 4-3-3 formation.
Pearce and Gilbey are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Ben Purrington, Dylan Levitt, Chuks Aneke and Paul Smyth.
