Lee Bowyer praised his team for a strong start and then some resolute defending as the Addicks secured an important away win against MK Dons.
Liam Millar’s 18th minute goal gave the Addicks a deserved lead after a fast start and Bowyer’s team defended excellently, limiting the home side to half chances.
Speaking to Valley Pass Live after the game he said: “I’m delighted, I think the way we started the game we were on the front foot. They’re a good side and you have to respect them. They moved the ball well; when we played them at home a few weeks ago we left too many wholes and they were hurting us. Today I think our shape was excellent. We didn’t give too many chances away and on the opposite side of things we won the ball in good areas and should have scored more.
“If I’ve got one criticism it is that we didn’t take care of the ball. If we had just passed it like the first pass, second pass, we’d have got in every time but for some reason today we couldn’t do that. Overall to come away here and take away three points, I’m very happy.”
The Addicks Manager reserved special praise for Canada international Millar. He said: “I have to say Liam Millar defended the far post outstandingly well, for a young lad right at the death there, maybe 87th or 88th minute, they put a great cross in and he just got a little toe onto it. I was really pleased with him tonight.”
The Addicks kept their second clean sheet in four game and Bowyer was pleased to see his side defend so well.
He said: “To get a clean sheet against a good side, who score a lot of goals, now we can go into Saturday with a bit of happiness around the place. Even in the dressing room after the game I felt this is what they needed more than anything, forget the three points, the clean sheet [was important for them]. I’m looking forward to Saturday [against Portsmouth]. It’s always a big game against them.”
