MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Burton Albion

The Addicks will be looking for a change of fortune at home as they welcome Burton Albion to SE7 on Tuesday evening (7pm).

With one victory in the last eight at The Valley, Lee Bowyer's side will need to get back to winning ways if they are to mount a push for promotion come May and a visit from bottom club Burton provides another opportunity for Charlton to get three points on the board.

Former Addick Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink made a recent return to the Brewers' dugout in an attempt to rescue their season and he has made a positive start to his second spell at the club, winning three of his first five games in charge, although they come to south London off the back of a 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland at the weekend.

They find themselves bottom of the table with five wins, seven draws and 15 defeats from their 27 games played, three points from safety.

Ryan Inniss remains sidelined, while Tuesday may come too soon for Jake Forster-Caskey after the midfielder missed out on Saturday with a slight hamstring strain.

Alex Gilbey may all be forced to sit out having also suffered a hamstring complaint ahead of the weekend's draw at Fleetwood Town.

Chuks Aneke will be available again after the striker sat out his one-match ban on Saturday.

For Burton, Josh Earl will serve his one-match ban having been dismissed in their defeat at Sunderland last time out.

Charlton Boss Lee Bowyer: “He’s doing alright Jimmy [Floyd Hasselbaink], they’ve had some good results. If you take away the weekend then their only recent loss before that was by one goal against Ipswich. They have completely changed [their style of play].

"We’re inconsistent at the moment. We are good for a game or two and then we make silly mistakes and it costs us. But that can change from now on."

Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: "We need to focus, look at what has gone wrong and what we can do better. We will finish with this match [Sunderland defeat] and jump straight away on to the Charlton game.

"My two midfielders, normally the rocks [Ryan Edwards and Sean Clare] didn’t have the best games but if they come out of their shell again on Tuesday and show what kind of players they are, then, I’ll say, OK, it can happen.”

Charlton and Burton have only met on four previous occasions with the Addicks winning three and the Brewers winning one.

The reverse fixture saw Burton run out 4-2 winners at the Pirelli Stadium in November. The last meeting at The Valley came in March 2019 with Ben Reeves adding to Lyle Taylor's early penalty to earn a 2-1 victory.
