Charlton’s U18s made it back-to-back wins with a 5-2 victory over Colchester United at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.
Euan Williams was the headline-maker, bagging a hat-trick, while Tyreece Campbell and Mason Burstow made it an emphatic victory for the young Addicks.
Williams opened the scoring with 12 minutes gone when his low effort deflected off a trailing Colchester leg and into the net, while Campbell double the lead just two minutes later, finishing excellently into the bottom right-hand corner after being laid off from a throw into the box.
The visitors got themselves back into the game on 24 minutes after an error at the back led to a penalty being awarded to the U’s and they would be level just after the half-hour mark thanks to an impressive free-kick which flew into the top corner from 22 yards.
Despite their setback, the Addicks were determined not to make their strong start go to waste and they stepped things up after the break with Burstow firing the hosts in front just four minutes after the restart, poking home from close range.
The two-goal cushion was restored in the 65th minute from the penalty spot with Williams securing his brace, sending the keeper the wrong way from 12 yards.
And with eight minutes left on the clock, Williams ensured he would take home the matchball, sealing his hat-trick with Charlton’s fifth with a fine solo effort.
Picking the ball up in the box on the left from a throw, he jinked to his left, beat a defender and clipped the ball over the keeper from close range.
