Charlton U18s goalkeeper James Beadle has been named in ‘The 11’ by League Football Education (LFE).
The 11 recognises U18s footballers for their exceptional endeavours both on and off pitch, and is selected by LFE’s regional officers.
Beadle has been instrumental in the Addicks’ storming run to the Professional Development League 2 South title, including a remarkable run of 11 successive victories, while also featuring in a handful of U23 matchday squads. Charlton host Wigan Athletic in the PDL national final at The Valley on Friday.
At the same time, the 16-year-old has continued to excel academically, attaining distinction grades throughout his first year on the BTEC Extended Diploma.
The goalkeeper joins Charlie Barker in becoming one of 33 apprentices from a nationwide pool of 1,100 to receive the accolade during the 2020/21 season, in alignment with college review periods.
“James has been a consistent presence throughout the youth team’s amazing run to the Southern PDL title,” explained Charlton’s Head of Education and Welfare, Joe Francis. “He also attended the national goalkeeping training week at St George’s Park in February and March, playing as one of three goalkeepers in a fixture at Watford, which is fantastic recognition of his burgeoning development.
“In terms of his education, James has found a balance that has enabled him to complete his work at a high level despite the disruptions that have come from his involvement in the under-23 squad and national side. He has demonstrated a mature, professional and disciplined approach to his apprenticeship development throughout this time.”
