PAPA JOHN’S TROPHY PREVIEW | Charlton v Crawley Town

Charlton kick off their Papa John’s Trophy campaign at The Valley this evening (7pm), with League Two outfit Crawley Town the visitors.

Nigel Adkins’ side come into the tie looking to maintain the momentum gained from Saturday, having earned a first victory of the 2021/22 season with a 2-0 triumph against Crewe Alexandra in SE7.

TEAM NEWS

Ben Purrington, Jake Forster-Caskey and Alex Gilbey remain unavailable for the Addicks, though Ronnie Schwartz may be involved as he looks to build match fitness.

Jordan Tunnicliffe, Sam Matthews and Tom Nichols are all doubts for the visitors, having been absent in recent weeks with respective injuries.

THE OPPOSITION

John Yems’ side travel to the capital on the back of a goalless stalemate against Northampton Town at the People’s Pension Stadium last weekend, leaving them sat 20th in Sky Bet League Two with four points from their four outings thus far.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Tuesday’s meeting will be just the third competitive instalment of this fixture, with both sides boasting a win apiece in the EFL Trophy.

The last encounter saw the Addicks prevail at the People’s Pension Stadium back in August 2017, thanks to goals either side of half-time from Ben Reeves and George Lapslie.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Neil Hair will be the man in the middle on Tuesday evening. He last refereed the Addicks in the FA Cup in November 2020, when Plymouth Argyle ran out 1-0 victors at The Valley to progress to the second round.

Hair will be assisted by Andy Bennett and Stephen Finch, while Michael Chard is the Fourth Official.
