Charlton Athletic Women are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Sophie Hillyerd from Manchester United Women.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper is delighted to have made the permanent move to South East London, signing her first professional contract: “I’m really excited, the environment here is great and it’s a big deal for me,” Hillyerd explained.
“I’m really proud of myself, I’ve worked so hard. To sign it [first professional contract] at Charlton is really exciting just because of the environment and the players, it’s really good to be in and around the first team.
“It really does feel like a family, people say clubs are supposed to feel like a family but this really is, all the girls are so supportive.”
Manager Karen Hills is pleased with her latest summer signing, saying: “Sophie is a very talented young goalkeeper and I’m delighted to have her on board. She’s settled in well with the girls and I’m looking forward to working with her and seeing her grow as a player.”
