Nigel Adkins delivered his verdict on the Addicks’ 4-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at The Valley on Tuesday night.
Having offset Josh Davison’s opener through Oladapo Afolayan just before the interval, the visitors rallied late on in the second period to earn a 4-1 triumph thanks to Kieran Lee’s brace and captain Antoni Sarcevic’s strike in stoppage time.
“Listen, you’ve got to put the ball into the back of the net,” Adkins told CharltonTV. “We’ve conceded four; you can’t concede four goals at home. And that’s the thing, we’ve done really well in the first-half - the first half hour in particular. In the last 20 minutes trying to win it we’ve let the game go away from us with some poor goals. They’ve got a couple of ricochets in there as well but that was a challenging bit.
“We’ve got to do a lot of things better,” he continued. “We’re 10 games into the season now and today, as you just said there, there were some real bright moments there but obviously some very disappointing goals that we’ve gone and conceded. The scoreline reflects it all really.
“There’s a lot of disappointment around the whole stadium, it’s fair to say,” added Adkins. “A football club the size of this shouldn’t be in the position we are at this moment in time, but the reality is we are.
“We’ve got to make sure that we get points on the board now,” concluded Adkins.
