Academy starlet Karoy Anderson has signed his first professional deal with the club, committing his future to the Addicks until at least 2024.
The midfielder, who has been with the club for eight years, signed the deal with Charlton on his 17th birthday on Friday.
Academy Manager Steve Avory said: “We’re delighted that he’s committed his longer-term future to the academy and the club. He is an example of someone who has been part of the academy for a long time and benefited from our programme. We’ve seen him progress during his time here and he’s worked with a number of coaches who have helped his development.
“There is a real sense of satisfaction when a longer-term commitment is made by a player like Karoy and hopefully we’ll continue to see him progress over the coming years.”
Anderson, who is from Sydenham, is described by Avory as “a very good all-around midfield player”.
He added: “The thing that grabs my attention about him straight away, when I watch him, is he plays the game with great energy, a really good focus and out of possession he’s very good for his young years in how he reads and breaks up play. He is excellent in his tackling, pressing and intercepting.
“The defensive work doesn’t always get mentioned when talking about young midfielders, people often talk about what they do with the ball. Karoy as a midfielder is a very good defensive player for his age but there is more to his game than that. He is good on the ball, has a range of passing, sees the pass and is comfortable under pressure. We’re working hard with him in bringing attacking value to his game and looking forward to seeing him progress.”
