Jayden Stockley scored twice in Charlton’s 4-1 win against Southampton U21s but admitted his side’s final goal was Jason Pearce’s.
The stoppage time goal was initially credited to the Addicks’ striker, which would have given him the perfect hat-trick.
Speaking to CharltonTV after the game he said: “It wasn’t going in. Pearcey has done well, I think it was missing the target by inches, Pearcey has done what I’d have done, ran into the goal and put my face on it. Fair play to him because if he’d have left it and it had gone wide, you’d saying ‘what are you doing about it?’.”

The 28-year-old did net twice though, he credited Ben Purrington for helping set up his first: “He was flopping all over the box. I think he touched it with every part of his body at one point. Those are the goals I love, poachers goals, being the first to react – I love them, I’ve scored a few of them in my career and I want more. I scored from the spot as well. I could have had a hat-trick tonight, Corey [Blackett-Taylor] set me up with a header.
“It was good, especially first half. There was an intensity there, on our press and a willingness to get bodies forward, especially around the box and get balls into the box, which was especially enjoyable for the forward lads. I think the first half we can be proud of, we came off it a little bit second half and got it back towards the end. It was a good test against a bunch of lads learning the game.”
The striker added he was “buzzing” after scoring the winning goal in Charlton’s 2-1 win at Fleetwood Town.
