Charlton Athletic Women Manager Karen Hills has been full of praise for her squad following yesterday’s dramatic win against Bristol City at The Oakwood in Crayford.
Emma Follis’ 94th minute diving header earned the Addicks all three points to keep their 100% home win record intact.
“I’m really pleased for the girls, I thought it was a really tough game,” Hills explained.
“Obviously we opened the scoring in under eight minutes which was great, but credit to Bristol I thought they were excellent and pushed us all the way.
“They kept going, they had that self-belief, they never took their foot off the gas and they had that belief to go and score in injury time and I thought [Emma] Follis was excellent.
“We’ve got to look at ourselves, did we play as well as we can do? If I’m honest I don’t think we did, but sometimes you play games where you have to win ugly and thankfully today we did that.
“I thought the whole team put a shift in, it was a tough game from minute one. All teams are going to have to compete and do that and I thought we did that right to the last whistle and I think it showed a lot of character from the girls to believe in themselves to go and do it. I think the subs that we made, made a massive impact and that was key.”
The Addicks 100% home win record was extended to three on Sunday.
“It’s always nice to keep that record going, but we’re looking at performances – we’re looking at making sure that we’re doing everything right and we will look at that game and know that there was a lot of things that we needed to do better. I think we need to dominate the ball a little bit better, it was a very transitional game.
“They had to work really hard for that win, we’ll go away and reflect. I think we’ve made some really good subs and they definitely changed the game and won us the three points.”
Charlton face Totteham Hotspur this Wednesday in the Continental Cup.
“We’re always happy to play a WSL side, it just gives us that benchmark. We did really well against Brighton in the FA Cup last week and we’re going to go to Spurs and we’re going to play and do everything we know we can and put in a performance hopefully we can be proud of.”
