Conor Washington was on the scoresheet again for Northern Ireland in the latest round of FIFA World Cup qualification.
Having played an hour in Ian Baraclough’s side’s 2-0 reverse against Switzerland, the striker opened the scoring on 35 minutes in Bulgaria, though a quickfire Todor Nedelev brace saw the hosts prevail in Sofia.
Chris Gunter helped Wales to a 2-2 draw with Czech Republic in Prague, before enjoying seven minutes from the bench as the Dragons earned a crucial three points with a 1-0 triumph over Estonia.
Elsewhere, Harry Arter replaced Conor Hourihane late on for a brief cameo in the Republic of Ireland’s 4-0 thrashing of Qatar at the Aviva Stadium, becoming the eighth Charlton player to represent Ireland, while Hady Ghandour was an unused substitute for Lebanon as they played out a goalless stalemate with Iraq before defeating Syria 3-2.
Academy forward Euan Williams started both of Northern Ireland U19s’ Euro qualifiers as the Green and White Army suffered a 2-0 loss against Czech Republic, before earning a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan.
Fellow academy prospect Ryan Viggars, meanwhile, started as Wales U19s recorded a 3-0 victory against Kosovo, having been introduced as a substitute in their 5-0 reverse against Norway three days earlier.
