Charlton Athletic Women went down to two first half strikes as Lewes FC Women ran out 2-0 winners at The Dripping Pan on Sunday.
Goals from Paula Howells and Amelia Hazard condemned the Addicks to their second FA Women’s Championship defeat of the season.
It was a cagey opening 20 minutes, with neither side getting a foothold on the contest. Tatiana Saunders foiled Emma Follis early on and Ella Rutherford was penalised for a foul after climbing over a defender to try and get on the end of a Megan Wynne cross.
Lewes looked equally dangerous with an early sighter being an Izzy Dalton free kick that evaded everyone and went out for a goal kick.
Charlton then gave the ball away in a dangerous position. The ball fell to Ini Umotong and Eartha Cumings made a smart save down low before stopping the follow up.
Charlton tried to carve their way into the clash with a Lois Roche corner to Follis at the back post being lobbed wide of the far post.
Lewes broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when the Addicks gave the ball away again in defence and Howells curled home past Cumings.
The hosts doubled their advantage just two minutes later when Heidi Logan got free down the right and crossed for Hazard to stroke home.
The visitors tried to hit back before the interval but Beth Roe fired wide from range and Follis saw an effort scrambled clear.
Charlton perked up in the second period, with Roe firing an early cross straight at keeper Saunders and Keira Skeels flashed an effort wide from a Follis cut back.
In between those two chances Cumings clawed a Howells cross that veered goalwards out from underneath the crossbar and Heidi Logan shot over after a driving run.
The best chance of the final stages fell to Lewes when Kallie Balfour crossed for Umotong, who could only poke over from three yards out.
