Charlton Athletic Women Manager Karen Hills spoke to the club following yesterday’s defeat against Crystal Palace in the FA Women’s Championship.
The south London derby ended 3-2 in favour of Crystal Palace, with Hollie Olding and Jess King netting late consolation goals for the Addicks.
“Disappointed to lose the game, I don’t think we did enough. When we did start playing in the second half it looked very different and we caused them quite a few problems. I’m just disappointed with losing a derby game.
“I’ll go back and reflect on the goals and obviously we’ll speak with the team and look at what we need to do better. We know we can play better than that, and we know that we made some individual mistakes and errors.
“The game was there for the taking and unfortunately today for us, Crystal Palace were just a little bit more clinical in front of goal than we were.
“I thought we were better in the second half but it shouldn’t take conceding two goals to actually try and then pull something back. We needed to be better in the first half and that is something we’ll go away and look at.
“We were making changes left, right and centre. The changes and the impact that they had was effective, so that was pleasing to see. We had to shuffle a few people around as well so the momentum was going backwards and forwards a little bit.
“Conceding the goal straight after we scored puts you back on the back-foot again and it’s a bit of a mountain to climb.
“We’re going through a tough period. We know that games are coming thick and fast and we just need to go back to the training pitch and know that we need to do better. The girls are disappointed as you would expect them to be, but we need to look at ourselves and make sure that we come back fighting together which I know we will.
“Really happy to see the fans, I’m glad that they came out – sorry that we couldn’t put on a performance that we can all go away and be proud of.”
