Sean Clare believes that the Addicks set down yet another marker as they beat table-topping Plymouth Argyle at The Valley on Saturday.
Ben Purrington and Conor Washington were on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win in front of a bumper Valley crowd and having secured four wins and a draw in the five league games since Johnnie Jackson took caretaker charge, Clare insists that he and his teammates will continue to show what they’re all about.
“It’s set a marker,” he said.
“Every game, we’re setting a new marker of what we can achieve and we’ve just got to keep it going.
“Every win from now until the end of the season is going to be massive, if we’re going to achieve what we want to achieve,” he said.
“We’ve got to beat the best teams and show that we are capable of being up there.”
“We always knew we had the players in the building to get out of the position we were in,” continued Clare.
“We just needed it to click and, thankfully, it has now. Everyone is seeing the quality that we have in the starting eleven and the bench. Players of top quality are being left out of the squad and that really breed competition within us.
“You can see out there that everyone is fighting for each other, fighting for the badge and fighting for their spot. If we play like that, our quality will show and we’ll keep beating teams.”
Meanwhile, the 25-year old hailed the impact made by the Valley crowd with a rocking atmosphere driving the team on in SE7 on Saturday.
“I was here as a kid and it was like those days again,” Clare explained.
“If we can pack The Valley like that every home game, we can really make it into a fortress. “You could see Plymouth are a really good side, but it was difficult for them because the crowd were really on our side, it boosted us and took away from them, so if we can keep that up it would really make it difficult.”
“It was weird to see the fish back on the big screen!” he added.
“That was something I used to shout when I was a kid in the quadrant so it was funny to see that back!”
