Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the appointment of Terry Skiverton as First-Team Coach.
Following the permanent appointment of Johnnie Jackson as Addicks boss in December, he has added the experienced 46-year-old to his backroom staff to work alongside fellow Coach Jason Euell with the men’s first team.
“We’ve been a coach down in that department, I really feel like you need a team of three and was really keen to bring someone in like Terry who has a wealth of experience throughout the levels,” explained Jackson.
“That was important for myself and Jason [Euell] to have someone with that experience to come in and help us and the players, so I’m really pleased to have him on board.
“We’ve come across each other on coaching courses and have a lot of mutual friends. I’ve come across his teams as a player as well, so our paths have crossed a lot over the years and he was someone that was in my thoughts when thinking about who would come in and help us.”
A centre-back in his playing days, Mile End-born Skiverton began his career with Chelsea before representing Norwegian outfit Sandefjord BK, Wycombe Wanderers and Welling United, but it was with Yeovil Town where he would make his name.
Skiverton spent a total of 23 years with the Glovers, making 382 appearances and captaining his side to promotion to the Football League and into League One.
He then managed Yeovil for three years between 2009 and 2012 and remained at the club as Assistant Manager and Academy Head of Coaching, playing his part towards promotion to the Championship in 2013, before his departure to The Valley.
“I’m really excited,” said Skiverton after taking his first training session at Sparrows Lane on Monday.
“It’s a brand-new opportunity for me. I’ve been very loyal to Yeovil Town, but I felt the time was right and it’s an exciting challenge, especially where the club are and where the manager has taken them from, it’s a real chance for me to help support him and Jason [Euell] in trying to get up this league and make sure we’re competing.
“Speaking with the manager and the owner and the vision they’ve got for the football club, it really hit home to me how good an opportunity this is and one that you can’t turn down.
“I’ve learned my trade at Yeovil in every division apart from the Premier League, so I’m excited to come to such a prestigious football club.”
Owner Thomas Sandgaard explained he was pleased to add Skiverton to the team: “Terry has a lot of experience in football and is well respected in the game. We wanted to add another coach and he’ll fit in really well with the team.”
