MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Gillingham

The Addicks face an immediate turnaround in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night when Gillingham visit The Valley.

Saturday’s 2-1 reverse at Accrington Stanley extended Charlton’s winless run to seven games in the third-tier.

TEAM NEWS

Akin Famewo (ill) and Corey Blackett-Taylor (hamstring) are both in contention to return to Johnnie Jackson’s matchday squad, while midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) is set to gain match fitness with Anthony Hayes’ U23s at Watford on Tuesday afternoon.

Stephen Henderson (calf), Ryan Inniss (thigh) and Chuks Aneke are all unlikely to figure against the Gills.

Ryan Jackson (hamstring) and Charlie Kelman (calf) are both doubts having been forced off at Doncaster last time out, though Watford loanee Daniel Phillips remains suspended.

The Gills will check on the fitness of Aaron Chapman (groin), Ben Reeves (calf), Mustapha Carayol (hamstring) and Gerald Sithole (hamstring), but Danny Lloyd (knee) and Alex MacDonald (knee) are long-term absentees.

THE OPPOSITION

When Neil Harris was appointed as Gillingham boss on transfer deadline day, the Kent side were 10 points from safety and enduring a 14-game winless run.

Nine games and four wins later, however, the Gills are only in the bottom four by virtue of goal difference and travel to the capital on the back of a vital 1-0 triumph at fellow strugglers Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Gillingham have squared off on 37 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 16, the Gills seven and the remaining 16 encounters resulting in draws.

The sides shared the spoils in the reverse fixture at Priestfield as Ben Purrington’s own goal cancelled out Elliot Lee’s opener, whilst the Gills’ last visit to The Valley yielded a 3-2 victory for the Kent side.

Finnie will be assisted by Kevin Howick and Greg Read, while Nicholas Cooper is the Fourth Official.
