LOAN WATCH | Powell bags last-minute winner

No less than nine Addicks were in action for their respective loan clubs over the weekend.

Johl Powell caught the headlines as the 20-year-old netted a 96th-minute for Maidstone United in a 3-2 triumph over St Albans City at the Gallagher Stadium. Both he and Hady Ghandour enjoyed late cameos for the Stones as Hakan Hayrettin’s side stretched their lead at the National League South summit to four points.

Elsewhere in the sixth tier, Dylan Gavin continued his rich vein of form by inspiring his Billericay Town side to an invaluable 2-2 draw at Havant & Waterlooville. The Republic of Ireland youth international notched his fifth league goal in eight starts with an unerring finish after 25 minutes to help lift the Blues out of the relegation zone.

In the National League, Aaron Henry and Charles Clayden went toe-to-toe with fellow Academy graduate James Vennings at Grosvenor Vale as Wealdstone hosted Bromley. With the contest still goalless, Henry struck the crossbar from an acute angle on 68 minutes before a late goal apiece saw the sides share the spoils. Bromley now sit five points adrift of the play-offs - albeit with two games in hand on sixth-placed Grimsby Town - while Wealdstone are 17th.

Lucas Ness played the full 90 minutes for Hampton & Richmond as they fell to a 1-0 reverse against Dartford at the Cleo Saul Beveree Stadium, while Wassim Aouachria was introduced as a 66th-minute substitute.

Nazir Bakrin played the entirety of Cray Wanderers’ 2-1 defeat against Kingstonian at Hayes Lane. With five games remaining, Neil Smith’s side lie four points above the drop in 20th.

Ben Dempsey didn’t feature in Ayr United’s 1-1 draw at Morton in the Scottish Championship due to an injury, while Charlie Kirk (Blackpool), Josh Davison (Swindon Town) and Ashley Maynard-Brewer (Ross County) all had their fixtures paused owing to the international break.
