Charlton Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of former Lewes defender Sophie O’Rourke on a one-year deal.

The pacey full-back came through the ranks of the Reading academy where she won the National Colleges Final in the 2017/18 season, scoring two goals to help her side win the competition.

After spending seven years within the Royals’ set up, O’Rourke set sail for Scandinavia where she spent a brief spell in the Icelandic Professional League.

The 23-year-old signed for fellow Barclays Women's Championship side Lewes in 2018, following her departure from Grindavík.

The full-back expressed her excitement about joining Charlton during her first interview as an Addick. She said: "I am really happy to be here. I am excited for the season to start. I feel like I have reached that stage of my career where I am ready for a new challenge.

"I had been at Lewes for four years, so I feel like I have a good understanding of the league and certain players within it as well, so I feel like I can bring that to Charlton."

Addicks Head Coach Karen Hills equally shared her delight in bringing the full-back into the squad: "I am really excited to have Sophie here at Charlton. She has impressed over the last few seasons in the Championship and I believe her energetic style of play will be a real asset to us here."
