Hundreds of youngsters from across Royal Greenwich and Bexley, enjoying a range of half term activities thanks to the free L&Q One Goal programme delivered in partnership with Charlton Athletic Community Trust.
From football to art and design, the One Goal programme offers a variety of sports and creative arts activities for boys and girls aged from 5 to 21.
The One Goal scheme aims to motivate young people to be physically active, make healthy lifestyle choices and enjoy creative pursuits during the school holidays.
More than 615 young people attended the half term activities at Woolwich YMCA, James Wolfe School in Greenwich, the MNHC Centre in Welling, Saxon Community Centre in Sidcup, Erith Sports Centre and Hall Place in Bexley.
The sessions included multisport, street dance, cookery, design your own T-shirts/Caps, reptile and exotic bird experiences, DJ workshops, martial arts, boxing & self-defence, superheroes & princesses fancy dress up, creative gardening and bouncy castles.
More than 2,100 young people attended the half term activities across the capital in partnership with 8 other professional football clubs.
The project is being funded by the L&Q Foundation with a £387,000 grant which ensures that all activities are free and that there is no financial barrier for young people to get involved. Following the popular half-term programme, organisers are already planning the activities for the Easter holidays.
Sean Daly, Head of Football & Sports Development at Charlton Athletic Community Trust said:
“The funding for grassroots sport and creative arts is crucial, so L&Q’s investment and the delivery expertise of all involved has ensured this project has been a success and benefited the young people of London. After a successful year in 2016, February half-term again showed how popular this programme is.”
Matthew Corbett, Assistant Director Community Investment for L&Q, said:
“The One Goal programme had an incredible year, engaging more than twice the number of young people we originally hoped for. L&Q and the partner clubs are all very pleased to be providing young people across London with fun and creative activities to look forward to for their holidays. Parents also get peace of mind because they know their children will be getting out of the house each day, learning new skills and making friends in a safe environment.”
