Such was the impression that Melisa Filis made during her half-season spell on loan with the Addicks from West Ham United, the club moved quickly to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis, with a two-year contract signed in the summer.
22-year-old Filis scored on three occasions during her 12-game post-Christmas introduction to life in SE7, which included a goal on league debut in the 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers that sent the Addicks to the top of the division.
In addition to those goals, her all-round performances were impressive in an advanced midfield role, with attacking threat frequently provided and searching balls for her teammates often delivered.
The prospect of a full season of Filis in a Charlton shirt is an exciting one as Karen Hills’ side look for that additional touch of quality that will take them to the top of the Women’s Championship come the end of the campaign.
And while Filis may only be 22, she brings to The Valley a wealth of Women’s Super League experience, and an impressive record at England youth international level.
