Volunteering
Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people and support some of the most vulnerable in our local community. Currently, we are looking for people to join our friendly Greenwich Get Walking volunteer team.
What training will I receive?
The safety and practical aspects training is provided by Ramblers. It takes an afternoon to complete, in person at the CAFC stadium, SE7 8BL. Training covers safety, safeguarding, and making sure walks are as inclusive as possible.
Call 0800 470 4831 or email Fiona.Mairs@cact.org.uk for more information.
If you're looking for a fun, healthy and rewarding volunteering opportunity in Royal Greenwich, and you want to help others and bring a community together, why not lead a group of walkers on a route around your local area?
- Give as little as a couple of hours a month
- Convenient locations across Royal Greenwich
- Wide range of walks to choose from
- Physical and mental health benefits
- Become part of a team
Current volunteers speak of the range of noticeable benefits walking groups bring to participants and the positive impact walking with others has on their mental and physical wellbeing. We are so grateful to our volunteering team - this programme wouldn't be possible without them!
The Woolwich Ambassador Programme, initiated by Our Hut, is part of the Heritage Action Zone project, funded by Royal Borough of Greenwich and Historic England.
Woolwich Ambassadors run inspirational walks in Woolwich, helping people understand and appreciate the landscape, heritage and local culture that makes Woolwich so special.
What will I be doing?
- Delivering high quality, safe, guided walks to members of the public, engaging people with the heritage and architecture of Woolwich
- Helping people improve their mental and physical wellbeing with the positive impact of being in a walking group
- Contributing to the maintenance and development of the walk programme
Additional training
As well as the standard Walk Volunteer training, the Woolwich Heritage and History training is provided by Our Hut, who developed the Woolwich Ambassador walking trail. The training will take an afternoon to complete. Further heritage-specific training is available if you are interested.
