Recognise this story? Charlton face a team from the North East, go 2-0 down, pull one back, concede again, and then score two last-minute goals to salvage a point.
The drama unfolded again today, just as it did against Sunderland a few weeks earlier, leaving Charlton fans with their hearts in their mouths.
It was a tough start for the Addicks, falling 2-0 behind within the first 14 minutes. Although Charlton dominated possession and attacking play, the Magpies capitalised on their early chances, scoring with their first two opportunities.
The opening goal came in the fifth minute when Andrews outpaced the Charlton defence and cut the ball back to Hayles, who finished from close range.
Hayles doubled her tally shortly after, latching onto a through ball from Stobbs and calmly slotting it past Gray.
At half-time, Charlton had the chance to regroup and recover from a challenging first half on this rainy away day.
Just three minutes into the second half, Bradley gave Charlton a lifeline, firing home after Newcastle failed to clear their lines, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
However, Charlton suffered another setback in the 67th minute. Newcastle were awarded a penalty after Lois Joel went down in the box, and Hayles completed her hat-trick by converting from the spot.
As Charlton fought to get back into the game, they were given a helping hand when Newcastle’s Amber-Keegan Stobbs received a second yellow card for delaying the restart, leaving the home side with 10 players from the 83rd minute.
With six minutes of added time, Charlton seised the moment in dramatic fashion, silencing the home crowd of nearly three thousand.
First, Kayleigh Barton headed in a goal, making it 3-2. But Charlton weren’t done yet. With just a minute remaining, Katie Bradley scored her second of the match, securing a dramatic 3-3 draw and a vital point for the Addicks to take back down south.
