A well-deserved ending to an adrenaline-filled match against Birmingham City leaves the Addicks with pride and a point as they head into their final three games of the season.
The game started evenly, with neither side committing too much in attack for fear of leaving themselves exposed. Birmingham registered an early shot on goal, but neither team managed a shot on target in the opening 10 minutes.
The Blues had the first real chance of the game as they broke forward and attempted a clever backheel into the bottom corner, only for Sophie Whitehouse to scoop up the attempt
Birmingham found the opener 13 minutes in when Lee's strike bounced in off the post. The visitors maintained their momentum, controlling much of the attacking play throughout the first half.
Chances were limited, but the Addicks still threatened. A strike from Jodie Hutton forced Birmingham's goalkeeper into an excellent save to deny an equaliser.
Hills' halftime team talk had an immediate impact once again, with Charlton emerging as the dominant side in the second half. The introduction of Gloria Siber added further energy to the attack, and her influence quickly became evident.
The Addicks piled on relentless pressure, with Ellie Brazil and Karin Muya consistently finding space and creating chances. Despite their persistence, Birmingham's defence stood firm.
With nine minutes of stoppage time added, Charlton refused to give up. The Blues won a free kick in Charlton's half but Siber found first contact and head the ball clear. Chasing down her own clearance, the forward burst down the pitch, sprinting the full length and going past a number of Birmingham's defence. Siber then picked out Filis at the top of the box, who struck the ball into the bottom corner to draw Charlton level.
Energised by the equaliser, the Addicks pushed for a winner, forcing corners and free kicks in the dying moments. Despite their determination, Birmingham held on, and Charlton had to settle for a point — but one they can take immense pride in after a resilient display against the league leaders.
