Addicks boss Nathan Jones insisted his side will dust themselves down and be ready to approach the run-in with their heads up despite the disappointment of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Peterborough United.
Speaking to CharltonTV following a frustrating afternoon in Cambridgeshire, Jones said: “We’ll dust ourselves down. We’ve been in good form and occasionally you’re going to get these results, but we can’t have too many.
“We’ll debrief, we’ll do exactly the same as we’ve done - we’re actually better when it’s Saturday/Tuesday back-to back games so I’m looking forward to getting back to those because the week didn’t do us any good by the looks of it.”
Reflecting on the game which saw Charlton show plenty of promise going forward without finding the net, he added: “[Peterborough] have got as good of a front four as you’ll find at this level. We’ve had more possession, we’ve had 25 shots, but realistically, every time we were dominant, we didn’t score.
“We gifted them the first goal with the back pass and then we switch off from the cross where we’re normally really good.
“They have that front four that can hurt you and they turned up today. They’re a difficult side to play against, but for us, we didn’t defend the counter well and we’ve had 25 shots, but only had four on target which tells a big, big story.”
Jones continued: “We were dominant, we had so many opportunities around the box, but we just didn’t get the first goal. And then we switch off for the first goal and, suddenly, all that good work is undone.
“They leave three up from corners and they give you chances - where they gamble and leave people up, that paid off for them today and we didn’t punish them.
“We just needed to demonstrate a little bit more quality today and defend the transition and then it could have been a different outcome, but we never gave ourselves an opportunity by not taking our chances, by not showing quality and then by being weak defending our box which we have been very good at.
“We’re trying to achieve something and we will have losses - last time we had a performance like this was at Rotherham away and we’ve been excellent since then, so we have to react. We’ve got eight games to go. The way we play, sometimes you’re going to get this.”
Meanwhile, Jones offered an update on the injured Miles Leaburn, who was unavailable on Saturday due to a groin injury: “He’s seeing a specialist,” he explained.
“It was an innocuous injury, he had a couple of days off and came back in, we’ve done a little bit of work but felt something, so we’re waiting for scan results.”
