Blackpool end unbeaten home run

Will Mannion falls on the ball

Charlton 1 Blackpool 2

Charlton’s 10-game unbeaten home run in the league came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Blackpool at The Valley.

The visitors had the better of the first half and went into the break two goals up, but a spirited Charlton came back into the game in the second half and scored in stoppage-time to give Blackpool a late scare.

After a slow start to the game Will Mannion was called into action in the 15th minute, scrambling across goal to keep out Kyle Joseph's flicked header before getting to his feet to keep out Oliver Casey.

The visitors took the lead just before the half-hour mark when Rob Apter’s whipped cross from the left was inadvertently headed into his own goal by Gassan Ahadme under the challenge of Joseph.

Five minutes after taking the lead, Blackpool added a second when Charlton academy graduate Albie Morgan found the net against his former club with a low drive after picking up a loose ball in the Addicks' penalty area.

Nathan Jones was quick to act, bringing on Tyreece Campbell in the 37th minute as Charlton moved from a 3-5-2 formation to a 4-3-3.

After a half chance for Daniel Kanu, Greg Docherty got the Addicks' first strike at goal with an effort from just outside the box that failed to test Blackpool goalkeeper Harry Tyrer.

Charlton came out for the second half with an increased intensity and Conor Coventry’s curled free-kick forced a good save around the post by Tyrer. The Blackpool stopper was busy in the second half, then making a save to keep out Lloyd Jones who had got on the end of a dinked Tyreece Campbell cross.

Mannion was forced into action again just before the hour mark, touching CJ Hamilton’s shot onto the post.

Substitutes Chuks Aneke and Matty Godden were brought on with 20 minutes to go and Aneke nearly had an immediate impact, heading a deep Macaulay Gillesphey cross onto the roof of the net.

With four minutes remaining the Addicks had a big shout for a penalty when Luke Berry’s shot on goal was blocked by Casey, but referee Charles Breakspear remained unmoved.

Charlton pulled a goal back six minutes into stoppage-time when Berry was quickest to the ball after Tyrer was unable to control a deep free-kick.

Jones' side continued to push for an equaliser as injury-time lasted 14 minutes to make up for plenty of breaks in play, but the Addicks weren't able to find their goal and will look to bounce back at Stevenage next weekend.
