Jones reflects on loss to Blackpool

Nathan Jones claps supporters

Nathan Jones expressed his discontent as his side were condemned to a 2-1 defeat against Blackpool at The Valley.

The Addicks scored in stoppage time and pressed for an equaliser but weren't quite able to find a goal that would have seen their 10-game unbeaten home run in the league continue.

Speaking to CharltonTV post-match, Jones said:“I was really disappointed with the first half. Credit to Blackpool, they were much better than us. In transition it looked like they were going to score every time they attacked.

“We weren’t aggressive or front-footed, we were passive. I don’t want us to be that way. That was the reason we didn’t get a foothold in the game; we ended up 2-0 down and then it's very difficult to win a football game from that position.

“Second half I thought we had all the territory and opportunities, we made positive changes and looked better. They had less chances in the second half, we were more gung-ho than the first half."

Jones was left frustrated with the stop-start nature of the game.

“I’m really disappointed with the way the game went," he explained. "No malice on Blackpool or anything, but the referee has to control things better. There was probably 200 sporadic events, every time anyone came together it was a foul and it delayed it. 12/13 minutes extra-time but there was no flow in the game.

“We should’ve had two penalties, if you get 50% of those you get a point, one we might not have deserved."

Jones used all five of his substitutes during the game and changed formation. He explained:“ I thought we were better after we made the changes. Second half we had all the territory. The disappointing thing from there was that we didn’t create any clearcut chances, to have got something from the game.

“A lot of frustration today, we have to look at ourselves and do better.”
