Bolton Wanderers 1 Charlton 2
Charlton showed great character to bounce back with a big win on the road, coming from behind to beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
The victory, Charlton’s fourth in seven league games, moves Nathan Jones’ within four points of the playoff places.
Karoy Anderson was the Charlton hero, netting the visitor's winner with four minutes remaining, after Lloyd Jones had cancelled out Joel Randall’s opener.
The result came after a long week with three tough games on the road and the Addicks now prepare for back-to-back home games against Shrewsbury Town, on Saturday, and Bristol Rovers, on Tuesday.
The game had to be delayed within minutes of kick-off as a Bolton supporter received treatment in the crowd. The supporter was taken to hospital and everyone at Charlton sends thoughts and prayers to those affected.
The home side started better following the restart, with Aaron Collins forcing a save from close range by Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
Thierry Small was first to trouble Bolton goalkeeper Luke Southwood, cutting inside from the right but Southwood gathered comfortably. Tyreece Campbell’s curling shot was then well blocked by Bolton defender Will Forrester.
Meanwhile, Maynard-Brewer was again called into action towards the end of the half, getting down low to keep out Jori Osei-Tutu with a strong hand.
The home side were maybe lucky to play the second half with 11 men. Their captain George Thomason was booked in the fourth minute of stoppage time for a foul on Tyreece Campbell and could have received his marching orders four minutes later for a nasty foul on Alex Mitchell.
Thomason then nearly scored at the start of the second half, his looping header clipping the top of the crossbar.
Bolton had their opener 10 minutes into second half, with Collins beating the Charlton offside trap and smartly passing across to his strike partner Randall.
Nathan Jones used his game changers and changed the shape and the adjustments impacted the game. Lloyd Jones levelled the scoring in the 71st minute with his second goal of the season. Gillesphey’s cross, from a broken down corner, was pin-point for the defender to poke home.
Anderson’s winner came with a touch of fortune, the substitute was able to control a bouncing ball in the box and his shot deflected off George Johnston, giving Southwood no chance.
From there the Addicks controlled the remainder of the game to secure an important win on the road.
