Nathan Jones says 'there is a real possibility' that Josh Edwards could feature against Peterborough United on Saturday.
The defender missed the Addicks' win at home to Wigan Athletic last weekend after being forced off during the victory at Crawley Town.
"There is a real positivity that he could feature this weekend," explained the gaffer. "With Josh, it was just a really tight groin that you've got to be careful with. You've got to remember where he came from and the games and minutes he's played and also the way he plays, he's full of energy. It may be a little bit of an enforced rest that he had last week, but he’s a lot better now. We’ll have to see."
Jones also provided an update on the fitness of Daniel Kanu, who was substituted on 29 minutes during the U21s' clash against Bournemouth in midweek.
"He rolled his ankle. We have to assess that and see where we are. It's unfortunate as he just needed some minutes to keep himself fresh and focused for the run-in. The others [Tom McIntyre, Alex Mitchell and Gassan Ahadme] got good minutes which we're pleased with and they came through unscathed. It was needed - a very competitive game as well. We'll see where we are with Dan after a scan. It's a bit similar to what he did against Birmingham earlier on this season."
Looking ahead to Saturday's test against Peterborough, Jones said: "It won’t be easy. They're a really good attacking football side. Under Darren [Ferguson] they're a well-coached and well-drilled side with some exciting players.
"It's a tough test away from home and we'll need to be the best version of ourselves, as we keep saying."
As the club continues to celebrate the EFL's Youth Development Week, Jones praised the importance of the Addicks' academy.
"We're so proud, the club's in a good place with all the teams from the women’s, U17s, U21s and the whole academy. They're all in a good place. We want to keep raising and driving standards, and making sure that we produce players. We've got a duty at this football club to keep producing players because it has a wonderful history of doing that. We want to continue that and believe in young and hungry players, we have plenty of them here."
