Jones 'proud' of Addicks after 4-0 win

The Addicks beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 at The Valley and Charlton Manager Nathan Jones felt it was an outstanding performance.

Matty Godden gave the Addicks a lead just 30 seconds into the game, which was followed by a Tyreece Campbell double, before a Lee Nicholls own goal.

Speaking to CharltonTV, Jones said: "I’m delighted with that performance. For one because of the level of the team that has come here - they turned over Crawley last game scoring five. They’ve had a bit of time to work as well with the new Manager, I know John very well. To do what we did to them here, that’s a level of performance – I’m not sure you’ll see many better League One performances than that."

The Addicks' opener was the team’s quickest of the season, beating Tyreece Campbell’s goal 36 seconds into Charlton’s Boxing Day win over Cambridge United.

"We always try to start fast," Jones explained. “We always look to be aggressive in our approach to everything that we do. It started from the press and was a wonderful ball in from Thierry [Small] and then to be fair, that’s Matty Godden. We did that to Peterborough last week but we didn’t score. When it’s 0-0 and we let them off the hook, we just weren’t clinical. Today we were clinical. The level of performance was there - this team just shows that it can bounce back, with great character and accomplished performances and that’s what I’m really proud of."

Campbell was outstanding in the win and his goals were his sixth and seventh of the season.

Speaking about the 21-year-old, who joined the Addicks academy at U9s level, Jones said: "He can be anything he wants to be. What a joy he is, what a joy he is to work with. He misses chances, he gets kicked, he runs in beyond, he works hard, he presses. He’s an absolute joy to work with. We are very fortunate to have him. He’s come through the wonderful academy we have here. All we do is give him a platform and he responds and there is so much more to come from him."
