MATCH PREVIEW | Cambridge United v Charlton

'

Charlton kick off their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign on Tuesday night with a trip to the Cledara Abbey Stadium to face Cambridge United (KO 7pm BST).

The Addicks go into the tie looking to continue the positive momentum having claimed a 1-0 victory at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday courtesy of Gassan Ahadme's first goal for the club.

TEAM NEWS

Looking ahead to Tuesday's game, Nathan Jones said: "What we have is a squad that's itching to play and we've got people like Matty Godden, Allan Campbell and Karoy Anderson that needs minutes. There will be some changes, but it all revolves around us wanting to win the football game."

The hosts will be without James Gibbons (suspended), Mamadou Jobe (knee), Kelland Watts (hamstring), Taylor Richards (thigh), Elias Kachunga (hamstring) and Shayne Lavery (hamstring).

THE OPPOSITION

Cambridge currently sit second in Group K having already faced Bromley earlier this month. Following a dramatic 3-3 draw at Hayes Lane, the Ravens sealed the bonus point with a penalty shootout victory.

Garry Monk's side are yet to taste victory during the 2024/25 season and most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat at Mansfield Town, which leaves them sat 24th in the Sky Bet League One table.

Charlton and Cambridge have gone toe-to-toe on 24 previous occasions with the Addicks winning eight, the U’s seven and the remaining nine meetings ending in draws.

Connor Wickham netted for the Addicks in a 1-1 draw back in April 2024 when the two sides last met.
