With the Addicks returning from the final international break of the season, a visit to Vicarage Road awaits, facing Watford in Barclays Women’s Championship action (KO 2pm BST).
Charlton
Ahead of their final three fixtures of the season, Karen Hills’ side occupy the 4th spot in the table with a game in hand over both Sunderland and Southampton. With only four points separating the top four, a bid for promotion is set to go down to the wire as the Addicks line up to face Watford in this afternoon’s rescheduled clash.
Prior to this afternoon’s fixture, Charlton tasted triumph against Birmingham City at the Valley in their most recent fixture, which saw the Addicks seal a confident 3-1 victory against the visiting Blues. Producing an Easter Sunday special, Karin Muya raced away to snatch an opener for the Addicks before Freya Ayisi headed home a sweet corner delivery from Melisa Filis to double the host’s advantage. That all came before Kate Longhurst claimed victory with a stunning strike from distance that sailed into the Birmingham net.
Watford
Six points off of safety, Watford occupy the second tier’s bottom-spot ahead of Sunday’s derby after successive 3-0 defeats against Crystal Palace and Sunderland. Having held the league leaders across an even opening 45-minutes, the Golden Girls were subjected to three second-half strikes from their visitors as Sunderland wrapped up the Easter Sunday encounter.
Head-to-head
On their visit to The Valley in September, the Hornets headed back north holding all three points after Sophie McLean’s second-minute opener provided the visitors with an ideal start to their first win of the Championship season. Combined with a smooth conversion from Carly Johns and a second for McLean on the stroke of half-time, Watford snatched a 3-2 victory despite second half replies from Carla Humphrey and Angela Addison.
