Charlton Athletic Women narrowly lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur in their Women's League Cup opener at The Valley. Despite a spirited performance from the Addicks, Spurs claimed victory in a closely contested match.
Tottenham took the lead in the first half through a goal from Luana Buhler which was delivered from a free kick by Vinberg. After their goal the opposition held the majority of the possession, keeping the game at a very fast speed and making the Addicks work hard to try and win the ball back.
Charlton's equaliser came on the 45th minute of the first half, with a flying attack led by Ellie Brazil who ran the ball down the wing, dribbling across the box and crossing to Bradley who sends the ball straight down the middle into the back of the net.
The second half displayed a more equal battle between the two London sides. Charlton had longer spells of possession and looked much more comfortable on the pitch. Some promising play from Primus and Muya led to some attacking threats but unfortunately they couldn't couldn't convert.
Spurs' second goal game in the 85th minute from an unstoppable strike from Naz who sends the ball flying above Whitehouse into the top of the net.
The Addicks didn't give up in the final minutes with a final chance coming in the 92nd minute by O'Rourke whose strike hit the woodwork.
While the game ended in defeat, the Addicks fought hard and look to regroup ahead of their upcoming matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
