University of Greenwich Takeover Day 2024

'

University of Greenwich students will play key roles in supporting the delivery of Saturday’s men’s first-team fixture against Birmingham City at The Valley.

As part of the annual University of Greenwich Takeover Day, student roles include matchday stewarding, matchday hospitality hosts, supporting the pitchside PA, match reporting for the club website and selecting the matchday music working alongside the club’s DJ.

Charlton Athletic CEO Charlie Methven said: "Charlton Athletic are the original community club and giving young people an opportunity has consistently been something Charlton has done well. We are pleased our partnership with the University of Greenwich plays a part in the club keeping that legacy going.

“Over the years the University of Greenwich Takeover Day has allowed plenty of students to make important contributions to delivering a matchday at Charlton, which is often their first opportunity to work in a professional football environment. Consistently those students have impressed with their talent and commitment to get stuck in and be part of the team. We are looking forward to welcoming this year’s students to The Valley on Saturday for a game which is set to be our highest attended of the season so far.”

Professor Jane Harrington, University of Greenwich Vice-Chancellor and CEO, added: “The University of Greenwich enjoys a great relationship with Charlton Athletic Football Club and the Community Trust. We have been working together for over 10 years now and we both believe that sport and education have the power to drive change - with inclusivity being at the heart of everything we do. I am delighted that so many of our students will have an opportunity to take part in so many fantastic roles during the Takeover Day. I know it will be excellent experience for them all and I hope they have a great day!"
