Charlton's U18s were condemned to a 2-1 defeat against Watford at the UCL Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Samuel Washington-Amoah’s 53rd-minute strike proved to be a consolation for the young Addicks in Hertfordshire.
The Hornets took the lead inside four minutes through Amin Na Bizada. The winger drove into the Charlton box from wide, cutting in on his right before shimmying back onto his left and thundering his strike back across goal.
Just moments after the half-hour mark, the hosts added their second. A corner was swung towards the back post, allowing Watford’s centre-half Thomas Georgiou to head home for the home side.
Jason Pearce’s side were given hope ahead of the hour-mark as Washington-Amoah was able to pull a goal back. Bradley Tagoe’s corner was met by Marley Dawkins on the penalty spot and his header found Washington-Amoah, who converted with a quick flick from close range.
Up next for the young Addicks is a trip to the TSG Training Centre on Saturday to face Queens Park Rangers (KO 11am GMT).
