Charlton's U21s suffered a first defeat in 11 on Tuesday afternoon as Brentford claimed a 3-2 win at Wheatsheaf Park.
Harvey Kedwell edged the young Addicks ahead early on and substitute Patrick Casey also netted, but it was the hosts who earned all three points.
It was a dream start to the encounter for Chris Lock’s side as Kedwell fired Charlton in front inside 15 minutes following superb work from Kaheim Dixon, who crossed for the midfielder to rifle in.
Tony Yogane drew the hosts level shortly before the interval with a tidy finish at the back post, tapping into an empty net.
The home side’s turnaround was complete just six minutes after the restart as Ethan Brierley latched on to a lofted pass over the young Addicks’ defence, slotting in with a low finish.
Just four minutes later and the Bees had their third, this time from the spot. Kyreece Lisbie was brought down by Lennon MacLorg, leaving the referee with no choice but to award the hosts a penalty. Brierley duly dispatched from 12 yards.
Charlton's hopes of a late comeback were ignited as Ryan Huke and Casey combined from the bench. The former drove to the byline and cut a pass back across goal for Casey to convert with two minutes remaining, but the Bees held firm to claim victory.
Up next for the young Addicks is a trip to the Arden Garages Stadium on Friday, January 24th as they continue their Premier League Cup campaign against Birmingham City (KO 1pm GMT).
