Charlton duo Joe Aribo and Anfernee Dijksteel have been named in this week’s Football League Paper Team of the Week, after their excellent performances in the Addicks’ victory against Bury at the weekend.
Aribo set up Mark Marshall for the only goal of the game in clever fashion when he turned Bury defender Joe Skarz on the edge of the box and cut the ball back for the winger to notch his first league goal for the club.
Dijksteel, meanwhile, played out of his natural position and he, like Aribo, put in a top-quality performance to help the Addicks claim all three points. Dijksteel put in a brilliant defensive shift, with Addicks keeper Ben Amos rarely being tested, and also got forward well when required to give support down the line.
Following the win, midfielder Ben Reeves spoke about the team’s quality and the versatility of a number of players. He said: “If you were to look at our team today, you wouldn’t know that they were players who were filling in or weren’t regulars, so it was a good performance.”
Karl Robinson also heaped praise on Dijksteel, as well as his fellow teammates: “All of them, to a man, were excellent. Young Anfernee Dijksteel, Harry Lennon, Ezri Konsa, Jay Dasilva – I’m just naming all my players! I’m very proud of them.”
