Charlton boss Lee Bowyer was again full of praise for his team after the Addicks secured a late 2-2 draw at Barnsley.
Lyle Taylor’s equaliser came in the 89th minute and Bowyer felt the Addicks could have got even more from the game.
Bowyer’s full post-game press conference will be to watch on Valley Pass this evening.
Below are some of the talking points.
On his team’s performance...
“It’s crazy. I just said to the players there ‘I’m disappointed with the point’. I think first half we had two really good chances to take the lead then they scored a great goal, a great strike. You can’t defend that. Then second half I thought we were probably the better side. They were hitting us on the break every now and again but we had chances. Chuks went through one-v-one with the keeper, the keeper makes a good save and then he went through again and the linesman gave a foul and it wasn’t a foul, there was no contact he just fell over. I think overall the neutral would probably say a draw was fair, I’m a bit disappointed but it’s a good point."
On his players’ work ethic…
“The players worked so hard. We didn’t move the ball as well today as what we normally would but we did have a game plan and that was to try and hurt them down the sides and in behind because their full backs get forward so much. That was our game plan, to hurt them on the break down the sides.”
On Lyle Taylor’s calm penalty…
“It’s the first time when he walked up to take a penalty, I’ve not fancied him to score but obviously he does. He’s so calm in that situation, he’s the person you’d want to be taking a penalty. Thankfully it went in.”
On the Addicks threat…
“Jonathan Leko in the first half he put some great balls in and caused some problems. Jonny Williams did in the second half and did great for Conor’s (Gallagher) goal. In the second half Jonny looks so much different to me fitness wise. He’s just lasted 90 minutes. He looked so good. I’m happy, I think Chuks (Aneke) came off the bench and gave us something different and Macauley (Bonne) added a threat as well. In the end we had to go for it. We had the three big men up top and it paid off for us.”
