Conor Gallagher has made a great start to life in senior football with two goals in two starts since his loan move to The Valley and the Chelsea youngster is keen to continue his good run of form.
The 19-year old followed up his goal against Stoke City at The Valley by playing a key part in the Addicks’ 2-2 draw with Barnsley on Saturday, netting a leveller in the first-half before winning the late penalty which resulted in Lyle Taylor sticking it away for a deserved point.
Indeed, Gallagher is quite rightly pleased with how he has begun life in the Championship.
“I’m buzzing,” explained the youngster.
“The most important thing is to get the points on the board and to know that I’m helping out is the main thing, but I’m buzzing to get another goal and I just hope that I can carry that on.
“I try to make it into the box as much as possible and scoring is something I want to do in my career. Obviously, you need the players around you to help you do that and, at Charlton, there are a lot of good players. The most important thing is to get as many points for the team and, hopefully, I can score a few more goals.”
The Addicks were made to come from behind twice to earn their point at Oakwell and, despite having enough chances to arguably come away with all three points, Gallagher was happy with just the one as his side keep their unbeaten start to life back in the Championship going.
“We were hoping to come away with all three points,” he said.
“But with the way the game went, we were happy to get the late goal at the end and get the point. We had chances to win the game, but going down twice and coming back, you have to take the draw and it’s a good point.”
Meanwhile, Gallagher explained how Lee Bowyer was a big selling point in his decision to join the club from Stamford Bridge for this season as he makes his first steps in his fledgling career.
“I wanted to play in the Championship and Charlton had just got promoted so I wanted to play a big part in the team and I felt like I could do that here,” he explained.
“I heard what Lee Bowyer was like and how he is with his players and I’ve already seen it how he is with me. He’s already taught me a lot and it’s only been two weeks. He’s a great manager and I think he’ll help me a lot this season.”
