Tom Lockyer has joined Luton Town after exercising a clause in his contract which allowed him to depart the club following relegation from the Championship.
The defender arrived at The Valley in June 2019 and made 43 appearances in the Championship last term, scoring once.
Speaking following Saturday’s friendly at Crystal Palace, Addicks boss Lee Bowyer said: “I’m not surprised that someone has tried to take him. He did well for us last year and he wants to stay in and around the Wales squad with the Euros coming up next summer.
“The only thing that’s surprised me is that it’s taken this long for someone to try and take him.
“It means that we can now bring someone in. We need to strengthen the right-back position as well, so we will look to bring in Adam Matthews.”
The club would like to thank Lockyer for his efforts while at The Valley and wish him luck in his future career.
