Charlton welcomed fans back into the stadium at The Valley but ended up on the end of 3-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
The last time the two sides met, more than 26,000 fans packed out the stadium but as part of a trial event 1,000 Addicks were allowed in to cheer on their team.
Despite controlling large parts of the opening half hour, the Addicks went behind in the 25th minute and were never able to catch the visitors despite some late chances following Conor Washington’s 67th minute goal.
Lee Bowyer made one change from the side that beat Crewe Alexandra last weekend with Albie Morgan replacing George Lapslie in midfield as the Addicks remained in the same 4-3-3 formation.
It was Charlton who started the best with Macauley Bonne getting the first sight at goal in the fifth minute, flicking a header over from a Charlie Barker cross.
At the other end Ben Amos got down well to deny Jon Taylor but the Charlton pressure continued with a Washington cross inches away from a stretching Alex Gilbey.
Gilbey then forced a save from Doncaster stopper Josef Bursik before Bonne, adjudged offside, headed a superb Albie Morgan cross just wide.
Doncaster took a 25th minute lead against the run of play with Madger Gomes striking a long shot from distance into the bottom corner.
The goal gave the visitors confidence and Amos was forced to make a good save to keep out opposition skipper Ben Whiteman.
The Addicks came out in a 3-5-2 in the second half but were two behind in the 49th minute when young Barker put into his own net from a dangerous low cross from the visitors’ right.
Washington was then denied by Bursik before Darren Pratley headed just wide from an Alfie Doughty cross from the left.
Tyreece Jules-John made it 3-0 just past the hour mark, smashing home from just inside the Charlton area.
Washington netted his second in as many league games in the 67th minute heading in after a hooked ball back from the byline by Doughty was only partially cleared.
The Addicks gained control again as they looked to get back in the game and Washington’s shot from a Doughty cross went just wide. Gilbey struck the woodwork late on but it wasn't to be enough for Bowyer's team.
