The U23s followed returned to competitive action for the first time in six months when they hosted Queens Park Rangers at Sparrows Lane on September 15th, claiming a 3-0 victory.
Jason Euell’s youngsters took the lead on 24 minutes thanks to Josh Davison who slotted home from a trialist’s cross.
Davison bagged his brace on 58 minutes when was on hand to head home Ben Dempsey’s right-wing cross following a swift counter-attack.
And the points were wrapped up in the 67th minute when substitute Charles Clayden lashed a shot into the back of the net.
There was still time for Nathan Harness to make an injury-time penalty save to maintain his clean sheet. He dived to keep out Stephen Duke-McKenna’s spot-kick and the referee blew for full-time before the Rangers man tucked away the rebound.
