Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the appointment of lifelong supporter Lucy Bishop as the club’s new Fan Adviser.
Lucy, who sits in the Covered End lower on matchdays, will begin the voluntary role from Monday working with Owner Thomas Sandgaard and the club’s supporters to ensure the Charlton fanbase are part of the club’s intended growth.
The 33-year-old will help manage the club’s direct interaction with supporters, giving fans the opportunity to have their say. She has a background in communications, having worked in press roles in the Mayor of London’s office for more than seven years. Prior to that she worked for two years in PwC’s communication team.
She explained why she wanted to be the new Fan Adviser: “There is a buzz around the club. To be a part of that – to assist and advise wherever I can, to help move the club forward – it really is an honour to be involved.
“The fans at this club – and we are fans, not customers – are everything. We are the strength of this club and I want to talk to as many fans as I can and find out what they want from the club, because I know the owner wants to listen. He is bringing the club together and it is really important that the fans are part of that, and that we move onwards and upwards together.”
More than 180 Charlton fans applied to become the club’s first-ever Fan Adviser, a role identified by Sandgaard shortly after he took over the Addicks in September, to ensure the club continues to remain connected to its fanbase.
He said: “I was really pleased by the interest in the role both in terms of the quality and the quantity of applicants. It is clear there are a lot of very talented people with a passion for Charlton and while Lucy has been appointed as the Fan Adviser, I know there will be many other fans who will have their part to play in helping us get to where we all want us to be.
“Lucy is a true fan with a real passion for the club and that was very clear throughout the process. In addition to that, she is an excellent communicator and has a knowledge and understanding of the Charlton fanbase. She will play an important role in being a point of contact for supporters, so I am looking forward to working with her.”
Details of Lucy's club Twitter account and email address will be published next week.
