Charlton are excited to announce a new partnership with the University of Greenwich that will see the university become the first front-of-shirt partner of Charlton Athletic Women since the side turned professional at the start of July.
The university is a long-standing partner of Charlton Athletic and the club’s community trust and as part of the new deal, the University of Greenwich logo will be on the front of Charlton Athletic Women’s brand new hummel shirts for the 2021/22 season.
Charlton Owner Thomas Sandgaard agreed a deal to purchase Charlton Athletic Women in February and made the decision for the team to go full-time for the start of the 2021/22 season.
Commercial Director, Wayne Mumford, said: “With new staff, new facilities, new players to be revealed and now a new sponsor, it is an exciting time for Charlton Athletic Women.
“Our owner has a clear vision to grow the women’s team and we’re pleased to be able to partner with the University of Greenwich, who wanted to be part of that growth of the team.”
University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane Harrington, said: “We’re delighted to build on our partnership with Charlton and the Community Trust to sponsor the newly professional women’s team. It’s an incredibly exciting time for women’s football and women in sport. Our partnership with Charlton enables us to support our students with fantastic opportunities and is positive for everyone involved – I’m really pleased to see it flourish and grow.”
The existing partnership enables the university, club and trust to share expertise, research and facilities, giving sports science and coaching students at the University of Greenwich opportunities to work and volunteer alongside players and professional football club staff.
Internships are also available for event management, finance, marketing and media students and there are regular opportunities for university students and staff to access tickets to games at The Valley.
Charlton’s new strips for the 2021/22 season will be revealed next week.
