Charlton manager Nigel Adkins has named his starting XI for this evening’s season-opener against Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley.
Craig MacGillivray, Sean Clare and George Dobson make their competitive debuts for the Addicks, with Jayden Stockley handed the armband.
If the Addicks line up in the same 4-3-3 formation utilised through pre-season then Adam Matthews, Ryan Inniss, Akin Famewo and Chris Gunter will make up the front four in front of MacGillivray. Charlton’s new number 10 Albie Morgan is joined by summer signings Clare and Dobson to form Adkins’ three-man midfield, with Diallang Jaiyesimi and Conor Washington operating either side of captain Stockley.
Jason Pearce and Ben Watson are joined on the bench by a quintet of young prospects in Nathan Harness, Deji Elerewe, Hady Ghandour, Charles Clayden and Josh Davison.
Charlton: MacGillivray; Matthews, Inniss, Famewo, Gunter; Clare, Dobson, Morgan; Jaiyesimi, Stockley (c), Washington.
Subs: Harness, Elerewe, Pearce, Watson, Ghandour, Clayden, Davison.
