Charlton Women hit the road for the first time this season as they head north to Maiden Castle to take on Durham on Sunday afternoon (12pm).
Karen Hills’ side will be seeking successive FA Women’s Championship victories, having marked their first ever competitive game as a full-time, professional outfit with a 3-1 triumph over Coventry United at The Oakwood last weekend thanks to an Ella Rutherford brace and Beth Roe’s maiden Charlton goal.
Rutherford’s emphatic display saw the 21-year-old voted FA Women’s Championship Player of the Week, with the forward breaking the deadlock within a minute before rifling home from range with aplomb on 70 minutes to settle the outcome.
The Addicks’ last meeting with Durham came on home soil in April and saw Charlton run out 2-1 victors, with Beth Lumsden and Jess King finding the scoresheet either side of half-time in the Addicks’ penultimate outing of the 2020/21 league campaign.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Manager Karen Hills said: “They’ve got some fantastic forward-thinking players which we’ll have to manage and control. At the same time we’re going to focus on ourselves, we need to make sure that we’re prepared and we stick to the game plan.”
