MATCH PREVIEW | Wycombe Wanderers v Charlton

Charlton head to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon (3pm) seeking their first away triumph of the 2021/22 League One campaign.

Nigel Adkins’ men will be targeting a return to winning ways at Adams Park, having fallen to a 2-1 reverse against Cheltenham Town in SE7 last weekend.

TEAM NEWS

Ryan Inniss (thigh) and Ronnie Schwartz (calf) have joined long-term absentee Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) on the Addicks’ injury table, though Adkins revealed Ben Purrington, Sean Clare and Alex Gilbey have all trained with the squad at Sparrows Lane this week to further bolster his options ahead of the trip to Buckinghamshire.

Speaking in his Thursday press conference, the Charlton manager also confirmed that all of his new recruits are in contention for this weekend’s outing.

Chairboys manager Gareth Ainsworth expects to welcome Dominic Gape back to his matchday squad in some capacity for the first time since April owing to a calf injury, while the hosts will assess both Matt Bloomfield (concussion) and Nick Freeman (knee).

Anis Mehmeti remains unavailable, however, as the Albanian youth international serves the second of his three-game ban having been charged with violent conduct against Sunderland.

THE OPPOSITION

The Chairboys are embarking on another season in the third tier having suffered an agonising relegation from the Championship on the final day last term, finishing just a point adrift of safety.

Ainsworth’s men have tasted victory in both of their previous outings on home soil this season with a 2-1 triumph over Accrington Stanley preceding a 1-0 win against Lincoln City, though come into the game on the back of a goalless stalemate at Oxford United last weekend.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Wycombe have clashed on seven previous occasions, with the Addicks winning six and the Chairboys one.

The last meeting came in April 2019 and saw the Addicks run out 1-0 victors in Buckinghamshire thanks to club captain Jason Pearce’s volley on 35 minutes.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Peter Wright will be the man in the middle on Saturday afternoon. The referee last officiated the Addicks in the 1-0 victory at Bristol Rovers in January.

Wright will be assisted by Michael Chard and Matthew Lee, while Daniel Flynn is the Fourth Official.

COLOURS

The Addicks will be donning their white away strip for just the second time this season at Adams Park.
