Watson and Ramsay on Slovenia so far

'

Two days into the team’s pre-season camp in Slovenia, Tennai Watson and Kayne Ramsay offered their thoughts on the trip so far.

“Obviously the first day was a bit tough waking up early and getting straight into it, but we’re here to work hard,” said Watson. “That’s what we’ve been doing. The sessions have been enjoyable, there’s obviously beautiful views. I think the boys like it.

“From playing Dartford, to going home, sleeping quite late, to waking up at three o’clock in the morning and going to the airport - it was tough, but it’s got to be done,” Ramsay agreed. “We came over here and trained in the afternoon. After training the downtime has been alright. I nap whenever I can!”

Both players have been impressed by the intensity of the sessions. “We’re here for a week,” said Ramsay. “Like most pre-seasons the lads get a day out to go and see stuff and enjoy themselves. But I think they’ll be consciously thinking about tomorrow and the day after!

“You can’t really count on there being an easy session in pre-season!” added Watson.

Both agreed that the camp in Slovenia - which Nathan Jones has used many times before for pre-season - provides the perfect backdrop for the squad’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.

“The environment here in Slovenia - I can imagine why the gaffer likes going here all the time,” said Ramsay. “It’s got everything you need.”

“I’ve never been somewhere quite like this,” said Watson. “It’s different for me but in a good way. It’s early doors but these first two days have been enjoyable so I’m looking forward to the rest of the week. Not the hard work though!”

The camp is also allowing the likes of Watson and Ramsay to get to know their new teammates.

“There’s a lot of new boys as well that everyone’s getting to know,” explained Watson. “We’ve been in and out of each other’s rooms, in the little communal areas, and we’ve been busy training.

“It’s a good place for new players to integrate. There’s a lot of time spent together as a team.”

Ramsay has been impressed with what he’s seen. “So far it’s been a good group. Everyone’s been willing to work,” he said.

“Gass [Ahadme] is a machine, I haven’t even seen that much of him but he’s crazy! After training he’s doing gym, after gym he’s probably training again upstairs in his room. He’s serious!”
