Tennai Watson spoke ahead of this weekend’s trip to the Weston Homes Stadium, where we face Peterborough United (KO 3pm GMT).
The wing-back reached the 50-appearance milestone at the weekend, being named in the starting line-up as we tasted triumph against Wigan Athletic.
When asked about reaching half a century for the Addicks, Watson stated, “Ideally, I would have wanted it to happen at the start of the season, but you never know with football, things happen. I’m just super grateful that I can hit that milestone."
Saturday marked the 28-year-old’s first start for the club since October, where he was forced off through injury against Wrexham. “Yeah, I think for me, it was disappointing to go through that. There is a lot that goes through your mind when you're injured and that whole recovery process,” Watson explained.
“I think in a way it drove me to be super focused on what I had to do when I got back, knowing the time I had left until the end of the season.”
“I think that mixed with the fact that the gaffer drives such a high standard, it just kept me very focused knowing that, if I get my chance I do, if I don’t, I don’t. But regardless, I’m going to show the best version of me when I come in and train.”
Watson also expressed his gratitude for the continuous support from the Addicks' fans, “I love it. I think all players, well most players do, but personally, yeah, I love it. Especially at The Valley when it’s rocking, it’s mental to play under.”
Nathan Jones’ side will be backed yet again by another sold out crowd on the road, with just shy of 3,000 Addicks making the trip to Cambridgeshire.
“I’m pretty sure every game is going to be like that from now on. It’s like having an extra player so I’m looking forward to it.”
